World’s Top Athletes Break Records at Westmont

Comments
The Westmont Track was abuzz with the sounds and activities of the first day of the Sam Adams Combined Events Invitational as the Montecito campus welcomed some of the world's elite track and field athletes to campus for a decathlon and heptathlon competition. Thrilling the crowd with a 45.64 performance in the 400 meters was 2012 Olympic gold medalist Ashton Eaton. The time was the fastest ever run by a decathlete and sets a new stadium record. Eaton was the previous stadium record holder at 45.68. Damian Warner, the Canadian decathlon champion who placed fifth at the Olympics, blistered the track in the 100 meters, posting a time of 10.34. The mark sets a new stadium record, erasing the previous record of 10.45 established by Eaton a year ago. Warner's mark of 7.38 meters (24-2.5) in the long jump was the best of the day. Eaton had the best mark in the shot put at 15.02 meters (49-3.5). [results] [decathlon grid] [heptathlon grid] [photos]
