Cross Country Teams Finish Third and FifthPublished by
Westmont Women's Cross Country, ranked at number 16 in the NAIA, placed third at the Golden State Athletic Championship on Saturday. The Westmont men's team finished fifth out of eight teams.
Freshman Kelley Collins placed fifth in the women's 5,000 meter race in a time of 18:00, a season best and a team record time on the course.
"Kelly went out strong from the gun, as she was supposed to," said Westmont head coach Russell Smelley. "She ran most of the race by herself in a gap between the front four and the next four who were chasing her."
Sophomore Piper Bain was the Warriors' second finisher, claiming 14th place in a time of 18:29.
