Shh! Don’t tell anyone, but the Briones Reservoir Loop near Orinda is a great trail jaunt.

The sun and camera lens team up earlier this month to give a tree, off Bear Creek Trail, rainbowlike character. The trails passes through coast live oak, pine, willow and madrone groves.


Watch for exposed roots along Bear Creek Trail around the Briones Reservoir, near Briones Regional Park in Orinda.

During the first few miles of the Briones Reservoir Loop in the foothills northeast of Orinda, you’ll encounter vistas such as this one of the south finger of the reservoir. The 13.1-mile trail goes around the water.
