Thompkins an NAIA All-American Decathlete

Comments
Adam Thompkins had an up-and-down second day in the decathlon at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. But when it was all said and done, he stepped up on the awards podium as the fifth place finisher and an NAIA All-American. Thompkins tallied 6,573 points. "Today was a little rough," said Thompkins after the race. "The weather was a little bit warmer and I didn't do as well as I wanted in the throws. But I bounced back with a big vault. I left it all on the track. I literally have nothing left to give right now." The day started with a seventh place finish in the 110 meter hurdles, earning Thompkins 801 points. At the end of the hurdles, Thompkins was in third place. Then came the discus, with which Thompkins struggled. His one successful throw was for just 24.50 meters (80-4) and resulted in just 357 points. Next up was the pole vault. "It was exhausting just waiting for the pole vault," said Thompkins whose decision to enter at 4.05 meters meant he would need to wait through other competitors who entered at lower heights. "I was a little worried going into it, but it was good clearing the first vault by a lot." [men's results] [women's results]
