[Track & Field] Wiesner Sets School Record at Hornet Invite

Sacramento, Calif. – The Warriors returned to the track on a beautiful Saturday afternoon on the campus of the Sacramento State University for the Hornet Invitational.  Once again, the Warriors continue to set new PR's as they continue the season. 

Senior Hannah Wiesner set a new school record in the 1500 meters with a personal best time of 4:51.71, which placed her in seventeenth place.  She knocked ten seconds off her previous best time last weekend at the Aggie Open.  In the 800 meters, Wiesner finished 32nd with a time of 2:27.34. 

Freshman Stephanie Arzon set a new personal best time in the 5000 meters with a time of 21:22.06.  Senior Emily Fernandez led the Warriors in the 100 and 200 meters with times of 13.91 and 28.45, respectively. 

On the men's side, sophomore Michael Basuini took 17th place with a time of 15:48.15 in the 5000 meter.  Junior Jonathan Hernandez took 26th with a time of 16:43.72. 

Senior David Cummings took 30th place in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:16.80, while sophomore Patrick Johnson finished right on Cummings tail with a time of 4:17.12.  For the third straight meet, sophomore Christian Wichmann led the Warriors in the 800 meters as he placed 33rd with a time of 2:02.59. 

In the sprints, senior Sterling Shells edged senior Micah Hayes in the 200 meters with a time of 23.95.  Hayes finished two spots behind Shells with a time of 23.98.  In the 400 meter, Hayes placed 33rd with a time of 53.56.  Shells took 38th with a time of 55.97.  Senior Julius Smith ran a 12.37 in the 100 meters. 

In the triple jump, junior Nate Ellis paced the Warriors with a 12.48 meter jump to take 13th place.  He followed with a 6.14 meter long jump to place 23rd. 

The Warrior throwers headed west to the Johnny Mathis Invitational at San Francisco State.  Freshman Jennah Richmond placed 8th in the shot put with a throw of 9.83 meters.  Fellow freshman Shannon Postle finished one spot behind Richmond with a throw of 9.49 meters.  On the men's side, freshman Kyler Malarae finished 9th with a throw of 10.49 meters.

The Warriors will take next weekend off before returning to action at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on April 4th and 5th.
