[Track & Field] Warriors Start Season at Kim Duyst Invitational

Turlock, Calif. – The William Jessup University track season kicked off on Saturday March 2nd at CSU Stanislaus Kim Duyst Invitational. The men and women's track teams competed in their first meet of the season, and for some, their first collegiate track meet. For the size of the invitational,with many NCAA DI and DII athletes had applaudable performances. Freshman Kenneth Parker jumped 6.94m in the long jump, placing 4th. Junior Micah Hayes places 21st in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.24. Junior Wayne Smith competed in the 1500 meter run placing 20th with a time of 4:14.84 as well as placing 18th place in the 800 meter run, with a time of 2:03.30.

On the women's side, Junior Emily Fernandez ran a 14.56 in the 100 meter race, which placed her in 26th place.  Kylie Stevens finished right behind her in 28th place with a time on 14.76, while Lauren Young finished with a time of 14.99.  In the 200m, Gabby Leon paced the way for the Warriors with a time of 29.50. Fernandez and Stevens had times of 30.57 and 32.19, respectively.  Allyson Richmond and Christina Malek had a strong showing in the 800 meters as they finished in 24th and 27th place, respectively.  Malek finished in 34th place in the 1500 meter with a time of 5:37.39.

The Warriors track team worked hard, and had a great turnout for their first race. They will continue practicing in preparation of their upcoming event, the UC Davis Open, to be held on Saturday, March 9th. Go Warriors!
