[Cross Country] Basuini and Wiesner Lead Warriors at Stanford Invitational

Stanford, Calif. – Sophomore Michael Basuini and senior Hannah Wiesner led the Warriors at the 40th annual Stanford Invitational Cross Country meet on Saturday morning at Stanford Golf Course.

The Warriors men's team placed 13 out of 16 teams in the 8k non-NCAA DI division, which consisted of nine NCAA DII, 3 NCAA DIII and 4 NAIA teams.  Basuini was the Warriors top runner as he finished in 54th place with a time of 27:12.  Senior Wayne Smith, who led the Warriors at the Fresno State Invitational, placed 67th with a time of 27:42.  Sophomore Christian Wichmann was five spots behind Smith with a time of 27:54.  Junior Jonathan Hernandez and senior David Cummings rounded out the top five for the Warriors with times of 28:43 and 28:53, respectively.  The Warriors top five average time was 28:05. 243 runners took part in the race.

The Lady Warriors placed 10th out of 11 teams in the 6k non-NCAA DI division.  Wiesner took the Warriors top spot with a time of 25:49, which placed her in 60th place.  Sophomore Allyson Richmond had another great showing by placing 64th with a time 26:42.  Senior Megan Crutchfield was three spots behind Richmond with a time of 28:44.  Freshman Claire Silva and senior Christina Malek rounded out the Warriors top five with time of 30:05 and 30:12, respectively.  The average time for the Warriors was 28:19, while 222 total runners took part in the race.

Stanford's Erik Olson and Jessica Tonn won the overall individual races. Stanford first place in the both the men's and women's NCAA DI division, while the men's team form Colorado Mines University and the women's team from Chico State took home the non-NCAA DI division titles.

The Warriors will head north next weekend as they travel to Salem, Oregon for the Willamette University Invitational on Saturday.
