[Cross Country] Warrior Runners Compete at Willamette Invite

Salem, Oregon – After a great showing last weekend in the Stanford Invitational, the Warrior cross country teams headed north to the Willamette University Invitational.

Senior Wayne Smith headlined the Warriors, who finished 14th out of 20 team in the 8k race.  Smith finished 48th with a time of 26:14, which improved from his time from last week by a minute and a half.  Sophomore Michael Basuini, who Cal Pac Runner of the Week last week, was seven seconds behind Smith for a 52nd place finish.  Sophomore Christian Wichmann held the third spot for the Warriors with a time of 26:54, which place him in 75th place.  Junior Jonathan Hernandez and senior David Cummings rounded out the top five for the Warriors with times of 27:39 and 28:40, respectively. 

The University of Victoria took first place, while Eastern Oregon University took second place. 

On the Women's side, senior Hannah Wiesner helped the Warriors to a 17th place finish out of 19 teams.  Wiesner finished in 44th place with a time of 19:17 in the 5k race.  Allyson Richmond finished 79th with a time of 20:24.  Freshman Stephanie Arzon and sophomore Justine Kruger had a strong showing as they crossed the finish line together with a time of 22:40.

The University of British Columbia took first, while the University of Victoria took second.

The Warriors have a week off before they return to action for the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on October 19th.
