[Track & Field] Warriors Have Good Showing at Hornet InvitationalPublished by
Sacramento, Calif. – The William Jessup University Track and Field team was back in action on a beautiful Saturday morning at the Hornet invitational held on the campus of Sacramento State University. Freshman Michael Basuini led the way for the Warriors in the 5000 meter race with a time of 15:57.86, which placed him in 19th place. Finishing two spots behind Basuini was senior Ben Burchett with a time of 16:05.06. Junior Wayne Smith paced the Warriors in the 1500 meter by finishing in 31st place with a time of 4:13.97. Bentley Nunes finished in 33rd place with a time of 4:21.05, while freshman Patrick Johnson was right behind Nunes with a time of 4:24.43. Senior Micah Hays ran a 53.79 in the 400 meter, which placed him in 28th place. Smith placed 26th place in the 800 meter with a time of 2:08.75. Freshman Kenneth Parker finished the long jump in 18th place with a jump of 6.34. On the women's side, junior Hannah Wiesner finished the 1500 meter in 27th place with a time of 5:15.48. Two spots behind Wiesner was junior Alyssa Amack with a time of 5:22.46, while Melissa Copley was right behind Amack with a time of 5:24.23. Junior Emily Fernandez led the Warriors in the 100 meters with a time of 14.07 which was good for 38th place. Right behind Fernandez was Kylie Stevens, who finished with a time of 14.10. Freshman Allyson Richmond had the Warriors best finish of the day with a time of 2:29.45 in the 800 meter, which was good for 17th place. Christina Malek finished in 22nd place with a time of 2:35.62. Senior Gabby Leon sprinted to 46th place in the 200 meter with a time of 28.62. Stevens was six spots behind Leon with a time of 29.85.
